AS BEACH TO BEACON 10KM RACE APPROACHES................

Beach to Beacon race is a 10 km (6.2miles) road running event that takes place along the coastline of Cape Elizabeth ,Maine. It begins near the at Crescent Beach State Park entrance on Route 77 in Cape Elizabeth, winds past breathtaking ocean vistas and ends in Fort Williams PArk at the Portland Head Light(The most photographed lighthouse in the World).

Starting out as mainly a local event, athletes from all over the US. and various parts of the world now participate in the annual event, including some world-class distance runners. Now the event is formally known as the TD Banknorth Beach to Beacon 10k.

For the Men's division, Kenyan nationales have been winning the event since 2000 and for the Women's division, Kenyan won ot between 2000 and 2004 before Netherlands,Russia and Romania won afterwards. Kenyan fought back in 2008 becoming the Champion again after 3years.

This year's race registration just closed on 15th March, 2009 with over 6,000 registrants which was based on first come first serve, with the slots filled within 135minutes. With this,Some people were not able to register due to high volume of traffic to the website. The Organisers are reviewing the calls and emails on those issues and will be working on a plan to address each of them.

To find out if your registration went through, runneres can go to the site, www.beach3beacon.org and click on the entrants tab to check for their respective names.

As frustrating as some people that were not able to make registration might be,we cannot take away the good job that the Organisers of the Race has put in place.
Have a happy run..................
